We left Zeballos after breakfast for the one and a half hour drive to Port McNeill where we were booked for another whale watching trip, specifically with Orcas in mind as apparently there are numerous resident in the area.
A nice lump of kelp floating in the harbour.
The colours on my phone are a bit weird but it's the only way for a selfie.
This is a Common Loon in breeding plumage, I've wanted to see one all holiday - shame it was so far away.
We had lovely weather and gorgeous scenery once again.
With some atmospheric mist in places.
Common Guillemots
First blow of the morning.
We were then lucky enough to witness the whale lunge feeding which is literally what it sounds like; when there are large shoals of fish around the whales just open their mouths and lunge at them.
I guess this is why it's called a humpback!
A colony of Stellar Sea Lions, the first time we've seen this species.
Large shoals of fish also meant lots of birds around.
Suddenly the whale turned straight towards the boat - this is uncropped.
Wow! but what a shame it's not facing us.
It was getting near the end of the 4 hour boat trip and so we headed off to see some Orcas. Unfortunately they'd gone into the National Park territory and we weren't allowed to follow them so you'll have to use your imagination.
I'd actually rather not have seen them, than to have had such rubbish sightings.
Heading back to Port McNeill and all in all it was a good trip.
